Mrs. Dehlinger, one of our 4th grade teachers, asked if she could borrow Murphy as an example of a therapy dog. Her class read a story about how dogs are used to help people and are trained as therapy dogs and companion dogs. Since Murphy received his therapy dog certification and the kids have seen Murphy around school, she thought it'd be good for the kids to see him up close. Both our classes met in the library where I explained a little about the therapy program. Her students then asked questions which my kindergarten kids answered! My class was able to answer all their questions and accurately!!
I had Murphy in his red therapy dog scarf so he'd be official:
All the 4th graders wanted to pet Murphy and give him a cookie, so I broke each cookie into many pieces so he wouldn't end up eating so many! I think he enjoyed the attention and the cookies, my class enjoyed being the "experts," and Mrs. Dehlinger's class enjoyed seeing a live example of a therapy dog!
